" Listen to Eddie Murphy's New Reggae Song, 'Oh Jah Jah'

following Eddie Murphy's 2013 Snoop Lion-featuring reggae single "Red Light"and soulful "Temporary," the actor and avid-musician has returned with a new Rastafarian-flavored single called "Oh Jah Jah."
The track's set for digital release on Jan. 27, through the distribution arm of VP Records, the world's biggest reggae record label. On it he sings, "Police in the street shooting down black babies / Glory hallelujah for the young and the innocent," over a bouncing rhythm.

Murphy told Rolling Stone even though he's only recently been releasing music publicly again since his run of releases during the 1980s and early '90s, he's been making music steadily for the past 20 years.
"I've never stopped making music," he said. "I've always had a facility for recording at the house. I've stayed in the studio for years and years."

He continued to say he didn't want to be just another actor putting out musician on an "ego trip," and has just been making music now for the love of it. If people respond to this new song, he said, he might release an album. If they don't, he won't.
"I'm cool with all my shit being on the shelf until 100 years from now," he said. "If I'm doing a movie or if I'm going onstage, that's me being funny. But music, I do that all the time, for free. And if you do something for years and years and years and years, eventually you gonna get a little better at it. I got some stuff now."
