INEC bars parties from withdrawing guber candidates

Abuja - Political parties can no longer withdraw or replace their governorship and state house of assembly candidates for February 28, elections after Tuesday, reports Thisday. 

This follows the end of the grace period given to political parties by the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC) as stipulated in the constitution.

Section 35 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) provides for the substitution of names to be done not later than 45 days before the election.
