Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh and Dolphins’ Emem Eduok aim at ending the season on a high by winning the final of 2014 Federation Cup when they both meet at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Sunday.
Enyimba will hope to win the title back to back after sealing a Caf Champions League spot as Dolphins will dream their fourth title as well as a place in the Caf Confederation Cup.
On the road to the final, Enyimba ensured their third appearance in three successive finals after 1-0 win over Giwa FC in Abeokuta, while second finalist Dophins defeated 2012 third place winner Prime FC 1-0 at the Fifa Goal Project pitch, Abuja in the both semi-finals.
The Aba-based boys in Abuja earned a 3-1 victory over Sokoto North FC in Round of 64, edged Niger Tornadoes to a 7-6 penalty win in Round of 32 in Benin and in Ondo beat Nembe City 2-1 in Round of 16 before dumping out Sharks 2-0 in the quarterfinal in Abuja.
The Port-Harcourt side bashed Ingas 3-1 in Round of 64 in Warri, edged Kogi United and El-Kanemi Warriors on same 1-0 win in Round of 32 and 16 in Benin and Lafia respectively before a 4-2 quarter-final win over Lobi Stars in Enugu.
Mfon and Eduok, who both previously played for Akwa United have scored two and three goals respectively in the Federation Cup this season and are expected to stand out in the final as they both rekindle their rivalry for the top scorers' award.
Interestingly, Udoh snatched the league top scorer award after he set an all-time season record netting 23 goals, while Eduok was the first to equal the previous all-time mark after he scored 20 goals including six in a match against Nembe City.
Udoh told Goal, that a victory in the Federation Cup can only help Enyimba make up for their disappointing loss of league title to holders Kano Pillars.
"It's a mix-feeling for me getting the highest goal scorer award and losing the league title. I still give glory to God," Udoh told Goal.
"We still have a Cup final to play, so winning the Federation Cup final which is one of the two trophies will not be bad," he said.
While Eduok said winning the Federation Cup title is a must for Dolphins as they hope to seal a ticket for a continental competition next season.
"So we cannot afford to lose the match. Though Enyimba is a good side and it's going to be a very tough game, so we won't underrate them, but we have to go all out their win the Cup," said Eduok.
